tantramax, you didn't answer dabear's question.  I'm curious to know too if you would support it if your kids were having sex with each other.  Would you really be ok with that? Buy them condoms and condone that kind of activity?

Seems there are more people who frown upon this type of activity.  I'm curious to know why you support it, Tantra?

No, I didn't answer dabears question (nor did you address mine, btw). I wanted to give it some thought rather than just spitting back an answer. I'm not 100% sure what I would do. Parents tend to have rather mixed feelings about finding out about their kids' sexual activities as it is.

One position that I have adopted as a parent is that kids are going to do whatever it is that they are going to do, whether I forbid it or not. I can tell my son, "Don't drink!" but if he is interested in drinking, he will find a way to do it whether I have forbidden it or not. Despite the fact that my proclamation has been made in his best interest, if he wanted to drink, he would find a way to do it.

So now I (hypothetically) find out that my son is messing around with his sister. Would I think it's normal? No. Because I was also raised under a system that told me it is wrong. (btw, my son's mother and I have both provided him with condoms long ago). But, as I have written elsewhere, I question my beliefs and test them to see if they are consistent. And I cannot determine what is innately wrong with people who are related to one another experimenting sexually with each other. As Darkman pointed out, many people have played "doctor" when they were young. I don't see any divine smiting going on because of that.

Would I would I be OK with it? Do I have a choice? They're already doing it. And how different is it really from having sex with a random person, someone who may be lying about their sexual history and who all they have slept with before? Which would be better or safer for them?

i also mentioned doctor but thats just innocent they dont know better. were talking older kids here. kids who i should hope fully undersatnd at the age of 15 and 16 what they are doing. tantramax you ovided the questoin. if they are already doing it and you know they are going to do it anyway isnt the point. my question is Do you support what they are doing or would you talk to them about it or forbid them to do it in your house?

(In response to Tantra's last post....)Fair enough.  It just sounded like you full out supported it.  To play my own devil's advocate...logically, if the brother and sister could NOT procreate and it wasn't upsetting anyone else, there wouldn't be a problem with it.  But I still can't really get past the moral issue.  And you're right, it's because of something we've been told.  That's the point of parenting, right?  My parents shared their viewpoints with my brother and I and let us make up our own decisions about issues.  They educated us and didn't tell us what to believe.  I think a lot of us believe it's wrong because society tell us it's wrong, we don't really have any other explanation.  The idea of a brother and sister fooling around, much less father and daughter (mother and son), just doesn't settle with me.
