24 Nov 2003 | Sex before first menstrual cycle
| | Can I have sex before I have my 1st period? Can I get pregnant before I have my 1st period? What is the normal age that young women get their first period?
-Female age 18
|
Matt B responds:
Yes, you can have sexual intercourse before you have your first menstrual cycle. Getting your first period is the sign that your body is biologically capable of reproduction. This usually happens before your body is physically and mentally ready for sex, but sometimes can happen as late as 18 or 19 years of age. Ask your GYN if you are concerned about developing late, they may be able to assess your situation much better than I can from your questions alone. Young women typically have their first period between 12 and 18 years of age, and having it slightly before or after this is not terribly uncommon.

12 Aug 2003 | Craving alternative forms of sex
| | Is craving group sex abnormal? Does it mean I'm sexually bored, or maybe I should exercise my intellect more often? Does wanting to have group sex indicate a form of passive infidelity?
-Male age 38
|
Matt B responds:
Different people are sexually stimulated in different ways because the areas of our brain that control sexuality and our social conditionings are all slightly different. Society determines if these desires are moral or immoral, and often we are free to explore these desires but choose not to because of fears. You might not be surprised to learn there are many people like you who either enjoy group sex or are interested in trying it. Whether you explore these possibilities is up to you.
Should you exercise your intellect more instead of fantasizing about sex? Only you can answer that question. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with fantasizing unless it becomes disruptive to your lifestyle.
As far as infidelity goes, that is between you and your partner(s). If you feel being in a committed relationship while exploring alternative sexuality is okay, then you need to discuss it with your partner and see how they feel. Otherwise, fantasies that remain just that are harmless.

26 Jul 2003 | Is my sex drive too high?
| | I'm a regular, sexually-charged 18 year old male. I masturbate about 4-5 times each week. Lately, I have found that my sex drive has increased over the past year in college. Moreover, I find that after 2 days of not masturbating, I am incredibly horny. Now I know this may not sound like too much of a problem, but is it a problem to have an overflow of sexual energy? I know that people often want to increase their sex drive, and although I am perfectly content being an 18 year old horny male, is there something I can do to perhaps decrease my sex drive? Thanks!
-Male age 18
|
Matt B responds:
I'm 24 years old, and my sex drive is very similar to yours, so I wouldn't say you have an outrageous sex drive at all. Some guys I know admit to masturbating several times a day. The range is quite varied. As far as decreasing your sex drive goes, not including certain drugs, there isn't a whole lot you can do at your age besides perhaps changing your lifestyle slightly to accomodate fewer activities that might lead you up feeling the need to relieve your sexual tension.

24 Jul 2003 | Rawness and rash after sex
| | After my boyfriend and I have sex he gets raw on the right side of his penis. Normally it is raw for a while but clears up. This time, the day after, a rash of small brownish dots appeared. He said it was still raw feeling. What could this be? I get raw also, but have never had a rash although sometimes it stays raw for a few days. Should we see a doctor?
-Female age 38
|
Matt B responds:
Do you know what might be causing you both to get raw in the first place? Is it a tight-fit, high-friction action? If this is the case you should consider using lubes. If the rawness does not heal and exhibits unusual behavior such as your boyfriend's symptoms, you both should definitely consider seeing a doctor.
